About the Author
J-Fish was founded by Chris Loew, a Japan-based seafood journalist and analyst. From January 2009 through December 2024, he served as Japan reporter for SeafoodSource.com, covering Japan’s seafood industry as well as international fishery management and global market developments.
His reporting has included tuna regional fishery management organizations (RFMOs), the global octopus market, FOODEX Japan, and the Japan International Seafood & Technology Expo in Tokyo and Osaka.
In addition to journalism, he provides consulting and research services. His recent work includes commissioned market reports on yellowtail (Seriola species) for aquaculture companies in Australia and Spain.
About the Site
J-Fish is an independent English-language publication focused on Japan’s seafood industry. The site combines original reporting, analysis of Japanese-language sources, Toyosu market price data, and in-depth market reports.
The goal is to provide useful, specific information for seafood professionals, importers, exporters, processors, aquaculture companies, researchers, sustainability groups, investors, and policymakers. Where relevant, J-Fish emphasizes precise figures, source documents, and technical details rather than broad summaries.
Coverage is Japan-focused, but often connects domestic developments with international trade, aquaculture, fisheries management, and supply chain trends.
Companies, government agencies, and NGOs are welcome to share press releases, announcements, and product news for editorial consideration.
J-Fish currently carries no advertising. Information for potential sponsors and advertisers may be added in the future.
